Geneva National Celebrates Golf’s Most Beloved Icon

When the news hit Sunday evening, September 25, the Geneva National Family – like so many of Arnold Palmer’s steadfast fairway fans – were saddened by the loss of the aptly named king of golf.

Our connection to Arnold Palmer goes well beyond the multi-award-winning course he designed for Geneva National Golf Club 25 years ago. Mr. Palmer – in every aspect a true legend – represents a diligent work ethic, fierce family devotion, aeronautical aptitude, intense integrity, deep generosity and entrepreneurial spirit. He earned his fan’s respect with honest play, countless autographs, handshakes and waves, and mutual regard.

According to Paloma Resort Properties’ COO Kevin Paluch, a former golf pro, Palmer truly took time with people. “Rather than just being cordial and going through the motions, he let me be part of his day, at one point saying, ‘It’s time to work the dog now.’ He had this mat with a tennis ball, and he would hit the ball with a nine iron at different trees and set his dog on a chase. This guy who is a legend in our sport said, ‘Sure. Come out for an afternoon and let’s talk.’ He was just that awesome.”

Indeed, Palmer left an indelible impact.

“This is a man who lived in such a way that we want to honor him,” adds Paluch. “So when we thought about ways to celebrate his life, we asked, ‘What would Arnie do?’”  We knew right away.  He would give. So that is what we are going to do.”

In Arnie’s spirit of giving and a life well lived, Geneva National will host the WWAD (What Would Arnie Do?) week, October 3-7.
