Matt Werner Wins Fourth WSGA State Putting Championship in Five Years on The Dance Floor
Destination Geneva National once again hosted the state's best flat-stick talent, as Matt Werner of Appleton claimed his fourth Wisconsin State Golf Association (WSGA) State Putting Championship in the event's five-year history. Sponsored by Meridian Putters, the tournament is played on The Dance Floor, our 18-hole putting course designed by Craig Haltom.
Werner and Josh Duggan of Middleton each finished regulation at 3-over-par 39, forcing a two-hole sudden-death playoff. Both players parred the first extra hole, but Duggan's par putt on the second slipped past the cup, leaving Werner to sink his for the win. Debbie Groh of Aurora, Mike Stoltenberg of Pewaukee, and Ethan Lockhart of Waukesha tied for third at 41.
Werner also carded two holes-in-one during the round, on holes 3 and 8.
"It's been a fun ride, and I look forward to the event every year," Werner said. "It's a cool tournament and a really good time."
The tournament continues to draw a loyal following, with a group from Werner's home club, Reid GC, making the trip to Lake Geneva an annual tradition.
